M1 will launch a new programme schedule from Saturday, featuring themed weekends showcasing acclaimed Hungarian filmmakers alongside the return of several classic domestic television series, Hungary’s public media operator MTVA announced on Thursday.
According to the broadcaster, the revamped schedule will focus on Hungarian cinematic heritage, with weekends dedicated to influential directors and actors, while weekday evening programming will feature some of Hungary’s most popular television dramas and sitcoms.
The first themed weekend will highlight internationally recognized female filmmakers. On Saturday, the channel will screen two films by Ildikó Enyedi: My Twentieth Century, which won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Simon, the Magician. Sunday’s programming will honour Márta Mészáros, the first Hungarian woman to win the Berlinale’s top prize, with broadcasts of Moon Courtyard (Holdudvar) and Aurora Borealis.
The following weekend will feature Péter Tímár’s comedies and satires, including Moziklip, Catch the Goat! (Csapd le csacsi!) and Healthy Erotica (Egészséges erotika), alongside works by Academy Award-winning director István Szabó, including Father (Apa – Egy hit naplója) and Colonel Redl.
During the first weekend of August, viewers will be able to watch a selection of Hungarian films that have received Academy Award recognition, including the Oscar-winning animated short The Fly (A légy), the Oscar-winning short film Sing (Mindenki), as well as the Oscar-nominated Job’s Revolt (Jób lázadása) and Mephisto.
The following day will focus on film adaptations of works by celebrated Hungarian novelist Mór Jókai, including The Poor Rich (Szegény gazdagok) and The Rich Poor (Gazdag szegények).
A later themed weekend will pay tribute to two of Hungary’s most celebrated actors, Zoltán Latinovits and Éva Ruttkai, with screenings of classics including Szindbád, Cold Days (Hideg napok), Fotó Háber and Study on Women (Tanulmány a nőkről).
Weekday prime-time programming will also be refreshed with the return of several well-known Hungarian television series. Linda will air on Mondays, Angyalbőrben on Tuesdays, Família Kft. on Wednesdays, Kisváros on Thursdays and Patika on Fridays.
Friday evenings will also feature concert recordings by prominent Hungarian music acts, including Zorán, Omega, Hungária and Illés.
MTVA said the complete programming schedule, including classic films and television series, is available on the Médiaklikk streaming platform.
