HungaroControl and the National University of Public Service have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to advance air traffic control technologies, enhance aviation safety, and modernize technical higher education in Hungary.

Hungary’s air navigation service provider HungaroControl Ltd and the National University of Public Service (NKE) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at reshaping the future of Hungarian aviation and modernizing technical higher education. The strategic partnership, announced on Tuesday, opens new avenues for development in air traffic control and aerospace education, the organizations said in a joint statement.

The agreement focuses on deepening professional collaboration between the two institutions through joint research and development initiatives and educational programmes. These efforts are expected to enhance safety within the national airspace, improve the integration of civil and military air traffic control systems, and elevate the quality of engineering education in Hungary.

At the heart of the partnership lies the modernization of air traffic management and the exploration of emerging technologies in aviation. The partners plan to launch joint R&D projects and expand university programmes related directly or indirectly to aviation.

Key strategic areas of the collaboration include cybersecurity, various aspects of flight safety, and the development of effective systems for managing the growing presence of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the airspace. In addition to promoting knowledge sharing, the initiative also seeks to offer students more opportunities for hands-on professional experience.

‘The joint efforts of HungaroControl and NKE serve as a model for enhancing Hungary’s entire aviation ecosystem and contribute to building a regional air navigation knowledge hub,’ the statement read.

HungaroControl, which employs over 800 professionals, is a state-owned company providing air navigation services in Hungarian airspace and, at NATO’s request, in the upper airspace over Kosovo. The company also trains air traffic personnel and engages in air navigation-related R&D. Its sole shareholder is N7 Holding, a state-owned defence innovation company overseen by Hungary’s Ministry for National Economy.
