Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy has dismissed MÁV board chairman István Lepsényi and board member László Parragh with effect from Tuesday, marking the start of a complete overhaul of the state railway company’s board.
In a post on social media, the minister said the entire board would be replaced after board members Zsolt Barna, Miklós Bethlen, Tibor Deák, Péter Ratatics and György Wáberer resigned from their positions.
Vitézy said revitalizing and modernizing Hungary’s railway system remains one of the government’s key priorities, adding that the Ministry of Transport and Investment will appoint a new board in the near future.
The latest changes follow a series of management reshuffles at MÁV in recent months. In May, Vitézy dismissed Gábor Zoltán Dányi from his position as deputy chief executive responsible for finance. His responsibilities were transferred to Krisztina Bakos, the company’s director of controlling, who retained her existing role alongside the new duties.
In early June, the minister also appointed Enikő Simon as chief executive of MÁV Service Centre Ltd, replacing János Bada. The latest board changes continue the government’s broader restructuring of the state-owned railway operator as it seeks to improve the performance and reliability of Hungary’s rail network.
