European Council President António Costa will meet Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar in Budapest on Wednesday, 2 September, as part of his tour of EU member states.
Costa said in a statement on Friday that during the second week of his meetings with EU leaders, he would first meet Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden on Wednesday, followed by talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Zagreb and Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar in Budapest on the same day.
Costa announced on Monday that he would visit most EU member states between 25 August and 17 September to discuss the bloc’s next long-term budget and other priorities with national leaders.
The annual tour is intended to give the European Council president an opportunity to hear the positions and priorities of EU heads of state and government. This year’s discussions will focus primarily on the EU’s next long-term budget, while defence, competitiveness, EU enlargement and support for Ukraine will also be on the agenda.
Following the 2 September meetings, Costa will travel to Bucharest, Sofia and Athens on 3 September, followed by visits to Nicosia and Ljubljana on 4 September.
During the first week of his tour, Costa held talks in Bratislava and Tallinn on 25 August, followed by meetings in Riga and Vilnius on 26 August. He visited Prague on 27 August.
The European Council president is expected to announce the programme for the third week of his tour on 4 September.
