Szeged Zoo Transforms for a Night of Frights and Animal Adventures

Ghosts, witches, and zombies will take over Szeged Zoo this Friday, where visitors can enjoy animal feeding shows, spooky adventures, and a detective game as part of the park’s annual Halloween celebration.

Szeged Zoo will transform into a realm of the supernatural on Friday night as part of its popular Halloween programme. Both children and adults are invited to join a night filled with ghostly creatures, eerie surprises, and thrilling activities ranging from animal feedings to mystery-solving games.

Halloween has long been one of the zoo’s most beloved events. While modern celebrations come from Anglo-Saxon traditions, the festival has ancient roots connected to peoples who once lived in the territory of present-day Hungary.

What makes the Szeged Zoo’s Halloween special is the unique setting. Spanning 45 hectares, the park provides a natural habitat for numerous wild animals. Deer, swans, and waterfowl typically stay hidden during the day but often emerge after dark, creating a fittingly mysterious atmosphere for the evening festivities.

From sunset until late at night, visitors can witness themed animal feedings: lions will be treated to an anti-vegetarian feast, elephants to a fitness menu, and brown bears to a fish dinner. Caretakers will also share insights into the animals’ habits and routines.

Guests—many dressed in costumes—can take part in an interactive detective game across the zoo grounds, visit an insect exhibit, or join a zombie workout on the Elephant House terrace. Younger visitors can enjoy a playhouse organized by ArtistCompany and a dazzling fire performance titled Szikra Show.

With its mix of nature, adventure, and Halloween spirit, the event promises an unforgettable night for families and thrill-seekers alike.
