Electromobility and Luxury Dominate Mercedes-Benz Sales in Hungary in 2023

According to a statement released by Mercedes-Benz on Tuesday, a total of 4,419 Mercedes-Benz cars were registered in Hungary in 2023. Notably, a quarter of these models (639 units) were produced in Kecskemét, with the CLA (314 units), the A-Class (280 units), and the EQB (45 units) continuing to play significant roles in domestic sales.

In summarizing the 2023 Hungarian sales performance, Mercedes-Benz, in a statement released on Tuesday reported on the growing prevalence of electromobility, increased demand for luxury models, and the commendable performance of models manufactured in Kecskemét.

According to the statement, a total of 4,419 Mercedes-Benz cars were registered in Hungary in 2023. Notably, a quarter of these models (639 units) were produced in Kecskemét, with the CLA (314 units), the A-Class (280 units), and the EQB (45 units) continuing to play significant roles in domestic sales.

Comparatively, the preceding year saw the registration of 5,516 new Mercedes-Benz cars in Hungary, according to the company’s previous disclosure.

The statement highlights the increased popularity of electric (EQ) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models in 2023, with a total of 1,463 units finding owners. Consequently, every third registered Mercedes-Benz car in Hungary belonged to the EQ or PHEV category. Within the PHEV segment, the company secured a 20 per cent market share with the sale of 1,068 Mercedes-Benz models.

Purely electric models achieved a sales figure of 395 units, representing a 6.9 per cent market share in the domestic electric car market.

Significantly, the luxury segment witnessed further expansion in Hungary, as evidenced by the outstanding performance of the company in the Top End Vehicle (TEV) category.

More than 22 per cent of registered models (956 units) belonged to this exclusive category.

The trend towards the strengthening of electromobility and the luxury segment aligns seamlessly with the global strategy of Mercedes-Benz, which the automaker continues to steadfastly pursue, as emphasized in the statement.

On 11 January, the Mercedes-Benz Group AG unveiled its global sales data for 2023, indicating that Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 2,043,800 vehicles during the year. Electric vehicle (BEV) sales witnessed a remarkable 73 per cent increase in 2023, constituting 19 per cent of total car sales.

In the most recent concluded fiscal year of Mercedes-Benz, the net revenue for the passenger car business segment amounted to 140 billion forints. Notably, the corporate group realized a net revenue of over 235 billion forints in Hungary during the same year.
