According to a statement released by Mercedes-Benz on Tuesday, a total of 4,419 Mercedes-Benz cars were registered in Hungary in 2023. Notably, a quarter of these models (639 units) were produced in Kecskemét, with the CLA (314 units), the A-Class (280 units), and the EQB (45 units) continuing to play significant roles in domestic sales.

According to Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Källenius, the company’s Kecskemét plant is a crucial part of their global production network. He stated that the future is being built in Kecskemét, and this is not mere flattery, especially after the first EQB compact SUV model rolled off the production line in the plant in the autumn of 2021.

Péter Szijjártó visited the construction of Mercedes-Benz’s new plant and later presented the company’s CEO, Christian Wolff with the Hungarian Cross of Merit.

Hungary has always been on the side of peace, but the country needs strength and preparation for its defence, and it must participate in peace-supporting operations within the framework of alliances.

Hungary’s green party, LMP vocally objects to the planned investments on environmental grounds. First, it started organising a local referendum in Debrecen on the matter. Although the party did get a green light to collect signatures for the plebiscite, it never actually began working on implementing its initiative.

At the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation. They also shared the view that government support needs to be provided in order to protect Hungary’s strategically important automotive industry and preserve jobs.

On 21 July, Minister Péter Szijjártó announced a HUF 400 billion expansion investment at Mercedes-Benz’s factory in Kecskemét.
