Four-Star Hotel in Miskolctapolca Becomes the First in Hungary to Accept Bitcoins

Ferenc Kovács, the owner of Aurora Hotel and a crypto enthusiast, announced in a Twitter video that his establishment will be accepting payments in Bitcoin. The video was picked up by multiple major crypto-themed accounts on the social media site.

The Aurora Hotel in Miskolctapolca, Hungary became the first four-star hotel in the country to accept the premier cryptocurrency Bitcoin as payment in their facilities. This announcement was made by the hotel’s owner and executive director Ferenc Kovács in a short video on X (Twitter). The video has been picked up by other crypto-themed accounts on the site, most notably, Bitcoin News with 142,000 followers.

In the video, Kovács is showing how he can pay for a coffee in the hotel canteen with his crypto wallet, accessed through his smartphone, and a POS terminal on site.

The post was well received by an international audience, as evidenced by the 790 likes and 40 comments, almost all of which are positive.

Ferenc Kovács, owner of the Aurora Hotel, is an avid supporter of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. He is a contributor to Huszenegy.world, a Hungarian crypto news site. Miskolctapolca, the small town in north-eastern Hungary where the hotel is located, is a popular vacation spot with many thermal hot springs in the area.

In an article on Turizmus.com, Kovács specifies that the invoice will still be made out in forints, even if the guest chooses to pay in Bitcoin. The payment will be deducted from the BTC wallet balance according to the most up-to-date exchange rate.

‘The world is constantly changing and we want to be at the forefront of the latest technological developments. We believe that an inflation-free, independent, digital financial system can have a positive impact on society, which is why our guests can now pay for our services in an even more convenient and modern way,’ Kovács is quoted to say by Turizmus.com.

The current price of one Bitcoin is $67,697.30, which is near the all-time high, and is up by over 50 per cent since the start of the year.
