The Boca Raton, Florida-based rare earth materials and permanent magnet company REalloys has just scored a major supply deal, securing major supplies of rare earth minerals coming into the United States from Greenland.
Greenland’s Tanbreez deposit is the world’s largest untapped rare earth mineral deposit.
This is one of the reasons why President Trump has been voicing his intention to acquire the world’s largest island for his country, which is currently under the dominion of Denmark. Tensions between Denmark and the US, as well as within the NATO military alliance as a whole, rose over the issue at the beginning of the year. These tensions subsided as the Trump administration’s focus was drawn to the Middle East following the US–Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February.
However, this deal shows that Greenland is not completely out of the picture for President Trump and his team.
The US’s overreliance on rare earth mineral processing and imports from China has been an issue that the administration has been attempting to fix since the start of President Trump’s second term. It is becoming increasingly pressing as global demand for these metals continues to rise, particularly in the crucial technology and defence industries. The deal made with Ukraine in 2025 was one of the steps that mitigated the problem.
The rare earth mineral agreement with Greenland falls in line with what happened with Panama during the second Trump administration. Early on, even in his inaugural address, President Trump called for full annexation of the Panama Canal. He has given up that demand since, but in exchange, the United States has regained access to military sites in the Canal Zone.
What Is in the New US–Greenland Minerals Deal?
The mining of minerals at the Tanbreez deposit will continue to be done by Critical Metals Corp, another American company. REalloys will purchase and process part of the output as part of its effort to build a domestic rare earth supply chain in the United States.
‘Under the deal, REalloys will secure 15 per cent of monthly Phase 1 production from the Greenland project for an initial 15-year term,’ Oilprice.com writes in their reporting.
‘This is another major announcement for REalloys as the company rushes to stay ahead of major defence deadlines. The Tanbreez offtake deal follows REalloys strategic partnership with Saskatchewan Research Council, tied to 80 per cent of the output from the Saskatchewan Research Council’s commercial rare earth processing facility. It also adds to the company’s previously secured rights to up to 10 per cent of production from the high-grade Sheep Creek rare earth deposit in Montana, and its control of the Hoidas Lake rare earth asset in Saskatchewan,’ the site adds in their piece.
