The Hungarian movie Landslide (Földindulás), directed by Zsolt Pozsgai, has won the award for Best Drama at the Red Movie Awards, a prominent European film festival held in France. Irén Bordán and Gábor Koncz were honoured by the jury with the special prize for Best Lead Pair.
Originally produced in 2014 as a television film, Landslide has since been technically upgraded—digitally remastered, re-lit, and partly reworked—so it could compete at international festivals with English subtitles, according to the creators’ statement. The full film is also available to watch online.
The story, adapted from the novel by Hungarian writer János Kodolányi, is set in the southwestern region of Ormánság during the Great Depression, when families were permitted to have only one child. A young couple rebels against this rule, played by Áron Őze and Andrea Koncz. The film was directed by Zsolt Pozsgai, with cinematography by Gábor Halla.
The two lead actors, Irén Bordán and Gábor Koncz—who last appeared opposite each other in a Hungarian film 40 years ago—received the festival’s special award for Best Lead Pair. Over the past year, Landslide has won Best Film at several festivals, including in Florence, Las Vegas, New York, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Paris, Kolkata, Santa Ana, and Casablanca, the producer Horatio Film highlighted in a statement. The creators will receive the award at a spectacular ceremony in the coming weeks.
