Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Egypt on Monday, 13 October, at the invitation of US President Donald Trump to attend the signing ceremony of the breakthrough Israel–Hamas peace agreement.

Orbán announced the visit on X, praising Trump for achieving what he called a ‘tremendous accomplishment.’ The prime minister wrote: ‘If we do not fall for the pro-war siren calls, he will get it done in Ukraine as well. We must give him all the support he needs for that.’ He added that ‘regardless of geography, size, or weight, there exists a global pro-peace network that works together for peace everywhere—whether in the Middle East, the Caucasus, or Ukraine,’ concluding that Hungary is a ‘proud member of this pro-peace network, the alliance of common-sense people.’

The leaders of the United States, Qatar, Türkiye, and Egypt are set to sign the Middle East Peace Plan on Monday in Sharm El Sheikh, following last week’s agreement between Israel and Hamas on the 20-point peace proposal presented by Trump. ‘This means that ALL of the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that all parties would be treated fairly.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Trump said that ‘the whole world came together in order to reach this deal,’ noting that ‘so many countries that you wouldn’t have even thought of…wired their best wishes and their commitment to do whatever is necessary. This is more than Gaza. This is peace in the Middle East.’

Under the agreement, all remaining living hostages were released by Hamas on Monday in exchange for the release of 250 Palestinian prisoners serving long and life sentences, as well as more than 1,700 Palestinian detainees from Gaza held by Israel without charge.
