The University of Szeged is the best health care institution in the region, providing an outstanding service by European standards. The institution places great emphasis on the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The new device, bought by the Szent-Györgyi Albert Clinical Center of SZTE, can save coronavirus patients’ lives, as it can take over the role of both the heart and lungs at the same time for weeks.

“Covid causes the most significant damage to the quality of respiration. The most serious conditions are characterized by respiratory failure. We expect tremendous progress with the use of the new instrument, as this will save us time until the body becomes able to fight the virus and the lungs become functional again.  It can relieve the circulation of patients for weeks or even months.’ Prof. Dr. Barna Babik, Director of the Institute of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, University of Szeged, said.

Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged, emphasized that the machine provides new opportunities even after the pandemic. Doctors will also be able to carry out surgeries that have not been possible before. This device can also be used in the treatment of infant developmental disorders and during heart surgeries.

The Rector reminded that the best hybrid operating room in the country also operates at SZTE, and a 3D printer that can be used well in healthcare was handed over a few weeks ago as well.
