The average twenty per cent salary increase applies to approximately 84,000 healthcare specialists working in outpatient clinics and hospitals, as well as around ten thousand professionals working in primary healthcare, including general practitioners, paediatricians, and dentists.

In March, the second phase of wage adjustment for healthcare professionals, including specialized nurses, will follow, as stated by Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér during Tuesday’s session of the Welfare Committee of the National Assembly.

Government Commissioner responsible for the development of modern settlements Alpár Gyopáros underscored that the government has carried out over two thousand development projects related to healthcare services, including the renovation and construction of outpatient clinics, the replacement of medical equipment, and the creation of housing for physicians and midwives under the framework of the Hungarian Village Programme.

Regarding healthcare salary increases, the minister said the government will continue its two-stage wage hike programme. In addition to the 18 per cent raise in July this year, 200 billion forints have been allocated for this purpose in the draft budget for next year. The funds for pharmaceutical subsidies, cash benefits in health insurance, and the procurement of ambulances will also be expanded.

As far as social cohesion is concerned, Hungary made significant progress during the examined period: we improved by 16.9 index points in six years, which meant an advancement of five places (from 20th to 15th place). According to the Equilibrium Institute, we are primarily competing with the Finns and the Irish, with a score of 73.6.
