The goal of the roadshow is to integrate sustainable and eco-friendly energy into everyday life and promote green transitions. The series of events offer attendees the opportunity to test their skills in go-kart slaloms, acquaint themselves with road safety at the Road Safety Park, explore an e-car exhibition, and experience various virtual ‘exhibitions’ related to green mobility through VR goggles.

With the presentation of electric mobility, go-kart slaloms, and VR exhibitions, the interested are welcomed at the Pécs Station of the e-mobility roadshow organized by the Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Ltd (HUMDA) on 9–11 May, as articulated during the event’s Thursday workshop.

Virág Mészáros, the leader of HUMDA affiliated with the Széchenyi University Group, emphasized at the sub-event titled Fit for Green Living that their company coordinates the support system for electrically powered transportation vehicles, including the Green Bus Programme, under which Pécs has already applied for the acquisition of several vehicles. She stated that HUMDA endeavours to provide Hungarian cities with all the assistance necessary for successful green transitions, supporting municipalities in seeking solutions and promoting environmentally friendlier technologies than traditional ones. Mészáros added that HUMDA operates two hydrogen-powered buses to acquaint people with the new technology.

Péter Csizmadia, representative of Fidesz in the Pécs municipality, faction leader at the city hall and mayoral candidate, spoke about the key to success in the coming years being the effective implementation of green transitions, the utilization of green energies, and the integration of modern technologies into everyday life. He elaborated that a city can only be successful in this regard through collaboration with the Hungarian state, noting the lack of positive results in recent years and the need for change. He emphasized the necessity of a concrete plan for successful green transitions, citing recent consultations with the people of Pécs regarding a green city and a green future, wherein

the overwhelming majority expressed a desire for a sustainable and green city.

Among their commitments, he listed the aim for every bus involved in local public transportation in Pécs to be zero-emission, for trucks to bypass the city centre, and for more green areas to be established in the municipality. As modern cities cannot exist without modern industry, the objective is to attract modern, sustainable investors to Pécs, revitalizing the city’s industrial sector while prioritizing environmental considerations and awareness, he remarked. He underscored that only companies fully compliant with environmental regulations and laws are supported in Pécs.

István Háber, an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Pécs and a municipal council candidate for the governing party in Pécs, discussed the role of hydrogen in green transitions and the radical reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Hydrogen is readily available and can be produced almost anywhere, applicable in industries such as heavy industry, road, and air transportation. Research at the University of Pécs explores its use in vehicles and buildings.

Teodóra Diána Bakk, an engineer at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Pécs, highlighted the increasing demand for electricity and the need to increasingly utilize renewable energy sources to meet this demand. She pointed out the necessity for technologies capable of consistently generating and storing the required electricity, given the fluctuation of solar and wind energy. Among the solutions is storing energy generated from solar and wind power in hydrogen produced from water, forming energy communities comprising villages, neighbourhoods, or even streets.

The organizers previously outlined the goal of the roadshow being to integrate sustainable and eco-friendly energy into everyday life and promote green transitions. The series of events offer attendees the opportunity to test their skills in go-kart slaloms, acquaint themselves with road safety at the Road Safety Park, explore an e-car exhibition, and experience various virtual ‘exhibitions’ related to green mobility through VR goggles.
