From 19 May to 11 September, theatrical performances, concerts, dance shows, opera galas, classical ballets, and operas will await audiences at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage, as stated by Managing Director and Artistic Director of the theatre Teodóra Bán.

At the library located in the centre of the city visitors will have a chance to create souvenir cards with Elvish script, learn the secrets of Elvish braiding, participate in quizzes and group singing, and browse through the products offered at the Middle-earth market.

This year’s horse racing season kicks off on Easter Sunday at Kincsem Park with eight races, starting with galloping. Besides horse races, various themed events also await visitors throughout spring and summer.

According to the statement by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority, prompted by a citizen’s report, the Media Council examined the second episode of the first season of the series Locke & Key, available on the streaming service of Netflix, in terms of compliance with classification regulations. Following the investigation, Netflix changed the age rating of the programme to 16+ in its Hungarian media service.

In the upcoming season of Budapest Zoo, the most visited cultural institution and tourist attraction of the country, a diverse programme line-up, new animals, and new or renovated exhibition areas will await visitors.

Among the nominees for Category B of the New European Bauhaus Prize there is a Hungarian project titled Cooperative Ownership for Communities. It aims to create a multifunctional space by transforming a four-story building in one of Budapest’s old industrial areas. The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 Ceremony will be held during the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels between 9 and ⁠13 April.

Budapest’s recognized initiatives as part of the programme included the car-free weekend organized with the involvement of the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), as well as the European Car-Free Day held on weekdays, during which Mayor Gergely Karácsony presented plans for the human-friendly and green renewal of the lower embankment of Pest. The ceremonial events in the Museum Garden commemorating the 1848–1849 revolution will kick off next Friday, 15 March with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s speech.

The exhibition presents the complete history of the building complex rebuilt in 2014, from the late 19th century to the present day, through three key periods, as highlighted during the opening ceremony at the venue.

A total of 23 applications were received, of which 19 were considered valid and worthy of support by the evaluation committee.

In spring, several representatives of the world music genre will visit Müpa, including some who have never been to Hungary before.

In 2022, those sitting in front of the screen were, on average, ten years older than the overall population, whereas 25 years ago, this difference was merely four years.

Taking stock of the Budapest Athletics World Championships on Day 5: record-breaking spectator numbers, a Hungarian bronze, and amazing competitions.

The high attendance rates of the plays and the frequent standing ovations confirmed the State Opera House’s expectations that it is worthwhile to stage popular pieces from the operatic literature in classic performances with an air-conditioned auditorium in the summer. The July–August performances of the the first full summer season of the Opera were favoured by both tourists and locals from the capital city and the countryside.

Ádám Schmidt called attention to the championships’ mascot, Youhuu the Hungarian racka sheep, a lovable and entertaining character. He also mentioned that, for the first time in the 40-year history of the world championships, short films about the athletes will be shown to the audience before certain events.

From the tram stops of lines 1, 2, and 24, a few minutes’ walk from Müpa will get spectators to the northern and main entrances of the National Athletics Centre. The Ráckeve (H6) and Csepel (H7) suburban railway lines are also excellent choices, and several buses serve the nearby Közvágóhíd stop as well.

Thanks to a spectacular and comfortable transport solution, spectators will also be able to travel to the venue of the Budapest Athletics World Championships by boat from Batthyány Square. The organisers, committed to offering unique experiences to the athletics enthusiasts arriving in the Hungarian capital, will set up several fan zones in the centre of the city, along the route of the street races.

On 2 and 3 September, collections from 39 brands will be showcased at Millenáris Park, featuring creations not only from 24 Hungarian fashion designers, but also from Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech, Polish, Slovak, and Serbian creators. The event places importance on presenting regional brands alongside local ones, which is reinforced by the presence of international press, influencers, and buyers.

In terms of spectators, the championship will be the largest sports event in Hungary of all time. Also, in the history of world championships in the sport, never before have so many athletes participated in a single event as they will now.

As every year, the Cake of Hungary is selected ahead of August 20, with those attending the holiday events being the first to taste the creations of Hungary’s best pastry chefs. The competition this year was won by the torte named Tipsy Fig Respectus of the Levendula és Kert (Lavender and Garden) cake shop from Szigetszentmiklós, located on Csepel Island. Essential ingredients of the cake include Aszú wine, figs and honey.

One of the main highlights of the evening will be starting the 1900 horsepower engine of the 66-year-old Il-14 passenger aircraft. In addition, visitors will have multiple opportunities to witness up close the operation of a small-sized jet engine, and the museum experts will turn on the engine of a legendary Kamov 26 helicopter as well.

The central figure on one side of the medals is the emblem of the championships, Budapest’s renowned landmark, the Liberty Statue on Gellért Hill. The female figure is holding a palm frond aloft, symbolising determination, glory, and victory. In the foreground of the back of the medals is the brand-new National Athletics Centre, reminiscent of a crown for the queen of sports, with the track where the athletes will be competing visible in the background.

More than a hundred 12- to 16-year-old students and adult volunteers from the Zaporizhzhia region were hosted by the Körmend Law Enforcement Technical Institute last week. The Ukrainian guests ‘took part in unforgettable programmes,’ the school shared on their social media page.

The event series offers spectacular and exciting adventures for both young and old during the August meteor shower period. The programmes include telescope demonstrations, astronomical lectures, and meteor-watching sessions.
