The University of Szeged has signed a new cooperation agreement with two Hungarian branches of the global tech firm Continental: ContiTech Fluid Automotive Hungária Ltd and ContiTech Rubber Industrial Ltd, aimed at boosting collaborative research and advancing education.
Announced on Monday, the agreement lays the groundwork for shared innovation projects, joint research efforts, and educational programmes that benefit both industry and academia. The companies and the university plan to work together on areas such as material testing, automation, process development, energy efficiency, and productivity improvements.
ContiTech Rubber Industrial Ltd, based in Szeged, operates Continental’s largest European textile-reinforced conveyor belt plant and maintains an extensive production and development capacity in specialized oil and marine hose technology. Through its partnership with the university, the company aims to drive applied innovation and enhance research capabilities in both basic and applied sciences.
As part of the educational aspect of the agreement, ContiTech will host university students for internships and practical training, while the university will facilitate thesis topics, scientific research programmes, and academic supervision. The cooperation also includes joint applications for European Union and other research funding opportunities.
In addition to this, the university has reinforced its partnership with the ContiTech Fluid Automotive plant in Makó. The expanded collaboration will span research, development, education, and shared participation in competitive grant programmes.
According to the announcement, this new chapter in cooperation is supported by recent institutional developments at the University of Szeged, which have been designed to make its resources and expertise more accessible to industry players. The university emphasized that the partnership will help bridge academic excellence and industrial innovation from foundational research to real-world applications.
