Hungarian defence firm 4iG Space and Defence Technologies has signed an exclusive cooperation agreement with TATRA Trucks, granting it representation and sales rights for the Czech manufacturer’s military vehicles in Hungary. The deal supports Budapest’s ambition to strengthen domestic defence production and NATO-compatible capabilities.

Hungarian 4iG Space and Defence Technologies (4iG SDT) has signed a cooperation agreement with TATRA Trucks, the internationally recognized vehicle manufacturer majority-owned by the Czechoslovak Group (CSG), granting 4iG SDT exclusive representation and sales rights for TATRA’s military and special-purpose vehicles in Hungary, the company announced on Monday.

Under the agreement, TATRA’s heavy-duty off-road vehicle platforms will be introduced to the Hungarian market within a structured commercial and professional framework, primarily for defence, security, and other specialized state uses. The partners said the deal aligns with Hungary’s objectives of developing its domestic defence industry, strengthening technological sovereignty, and ensuring the sustainable development of NATO-compatible military capabilities.

The cooperation extends beyond market entry. The parties are also examining further domestic industrial collaboration opportunities, including full manufacturing and assembly processes, life-cycle support solutions, and vehicle maintenance. A key role in this process could be played by Rába Automotive Holding, which is expected to come under the majority ownership of 4iG SDT in early January 2026 and possesses significant domestic defence-industrial capacities.

‘The cooperation extends beyond market entry’

According to the statement, the agreement could later provide a basis for 4iG SDT to participate not only in the production of components and subsystems for TATRA vehicles, but also in the manufacturing of complete vehicles and in the preparation of joint development and market projects, potentially beyond Hungary as well. The partners’ long-term objective is for the 129-year-old Rába to become TATRA’s Central European manufacturing and development hub and the second-largest such centre in Europe.

TATRA is 65 per cent owned by CSG, one of Central and Eastern Europe’s most significant and dynamically growing private defence-industrial and industrial-technology groups. CSG operates manufacturing and development facilities in more than ten countries and is a major player in land systems, ammunition production, vehicle manufacturing, and specialized defence solutions.

The exclusive partnership fits into the long-term strategy of 4iG SDT and the wider 4iG Group, which aims to make modern, NATO-compatible defence solutions available on the domestic market through cooperation with international technology partners, while strengthening Hungary’s role in the regional defence-industrial value chain.

The agreement, focusing on the integration of ground mobility capabilities, is described as a flagship project of 4iG SDT’s land business line, supporting the development of a comprehensive defence-industrial portfolio built on land, air, and space competencies.

4iG Space and Defence Technologies is the space and defence-industrial holding company of the 4iG Group, developing innovative dual-use technologies for the space, defence, and security sectors.
