USAID Documentary by Hungarian Gov Gets Hype on X

After Trump’s second-term crackdown on USAID—backed by Musk’s DOGE—the Fidesz faction in the Hungarian National Assembly announced a documentary in April exposing alleged ties to local liberal groups. Now, posts about it on X are blowing up, with tens of thousands of likes fuelling fresh attention to the scandal.

USAID seems like a thing of the past by now. Once President Trump took office for the second time in January, in an effort spearheaded by Elon Musk’s DOGE, the progressive funding machine draining US taxpayer dollars, disguised as foreign aid, has been successfully dismantled after some battles in the court system.

This development in the United States has received particular attention in Hungary. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary has been a close ally of President Trump for a long time, and that has extended to showing support in his fight against USAID as well. PM Orbán has even appointed a commissioner dedicated to uncovering USAID corruption, András László.

One of the measures taken by the Orbán government in the wake of the scandal has been to order the production of a documentary about the case by the Fidesz faction of the Hungarian National Assembly.

While this was announced back in April, news about it on the social media platform X has been gaining a lot of traction lately. One post by the user The British Patriot has received 58,500 likes in one week. Meanwhile, another post by a user named Based Hungary has received an additional 23,000 likes in nine days.

When Is the USAID Documentary Coming Out?

According to the Facebook post by the Fidesz faction on 16 April, the film ‘is expected to come out in the last few months of 2025’.

‘The Fidesz faction is commissioning a fact-finding documentary on the Hungarian links of the international political and media corruption network known as the USAID scandal,’ they wrote in the same post.

‘The USAID scandal was triggered by President Donald Trump immediately after his election, when he disclosed that the previous left-wing administration had spent $23 billion worldwide on bogus programmes to influence politics, fund bogus civil society organizations and activists, and buy journalists, among other things. The aim was clear to the Biden administration: to spread extremist liberal ideology as widely as possible in other countries and to overthrow governments that opposed it.

It soon became clear that the scandal also had Hungarian roots, and it became clear that a significant part of the Hungarian pseudo-civilians, political organizations and the liberal media, which has claimed to be independent, had also received foreign corruption money. The film shows the details of this through documents, interviews, and illustrated reports,’ the public message by the right-wing populist party concludes.
