Paramount Pictures has retained the film rights for the upcoming novel Connie about the daughter of Vito Corleone, The Hollywood Reporter has reported.
American author Adriana Trigiani has secured the approval of the Puzo estate to publish a novel about the famous fictional crime family from the Don’s daughter, Connie’s perspective. Mario Puzo was the author of the original novel The Godfather, published in 1969, on which director Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 famous film was based. Puzo passed away in 1999.
The original Godfather film is widely considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time. It had two sequels released in 1974 and 1990, respectively. With their original acquisition in 1969, Paramount Pictures secured the rights to all potential films in the franchise as well. This was challenged by Puzo’s heirs after his passing, but was settled in court.
The new novel, titled Connie, is set to be released sometime in the fall of 2027 by the major British-American publisher Penguin Random House.
Hence, the production of the fourth instalment of the Godfather film series is in its infancy stage. However, a representative for Coppola has come on the record already to state that the director of the original The Godfather movie is unlikely to be involved in the female-focused fourth sequel.
The character of Connie played a major part in the original movie: the story starts at her wedding, and her husband Carlo Rizzi’s abuse of her is a major plot point that leads to the assassination of Sonny Corleone.
