Thanks to a spectacular and comfortable transport solution, spectators will also be able to travel to the venue of the Budapest Athletics World Championships by boat from Batthyány Square. The organisers, committed to offering unique experiences to the athletics enthusiasts arriving in the Hungarian capital, will set up several fan zones in the centre of the city, along the route of the street races.

Balázs Németh, the CEO of the company in charge of the organisation of the athletics championships highlighted at a press conference on Sunday that the spectators of the races will also be offered the opportunity to reach the National Athletics Centre by boat, departing from Batthyány Square in Buda.

The Hungarian shipping company MAHART will be operating the boat service between Batthyány Square and the MÜPA (Palace of Arts) boat station on all the days of the competitions that will commence next Saturday. The National Athletics Centre is a short walk away from the boat station, while travel time on the Danube is 15 minutes.

The CEO drew attention to the fact that boat transportation is important also because parking options will be extremely limited near the venue of the world championship.

‘This will be a green world championship, so we didn’t want to cover the Danube bank with concrete

to create additional parking lots,’ Németh stressed. The only period when the boats will not be in operation will be the evening of 20 August, Hungary’s principal national holiday, due to safety reasons related to the fireworks.

The organisers also reminded that it is worth travelling to Budapest using community transportation, as the railway–coach company MÁV–Volán Group offers discounted return tickets for a total of 2023 Hungarian forints for the whole duration of the athletics world championship.

The organisers are committed to making the Budapest sports event a truly memorable one, so the company will set up several fan zones in the centre of the capital along the route of the street races of the Athletics World Championships.

At a press brief held today at Heroes Square, Németh added that out of the 49 events in the championships, six will be centred around the men’s and women’s marathons, as well as the men’s and women’s 20 and 35–kilometre race walking. These will have their starting and finishing areas at Heroes Square, where grandstands are already set up and two giant screens are operational.

Apart from watching the sports competitions, spectators can also listen to live concerts. In addition to the 10-kilometre circuit, we will set up multiple fan zones. The central locations will be the square in front of the Academy of Sciences and the area in front of the Várkert Bazaar, as well as Heroes Square and its vicinity. Concerts, performers, parties, music, good vibes, and experiences will be offered—that is our concept of the 2023 Budapest Athletics World Championships,’ he underlined.
