In terms of spectators, the championship will be the largest sports event in Hungary of all time. Also, in the history of world championships in the sport, never before have so many athletes participated in a single event as they will now.

Ten days before the start, the number of tickets sold for the Budapest Athletics World Championships crossed the 300,000 mark.

In the organisers’ Wednesday statement, Balázs Németh, the CEO of the organising company, Budapest 2023 emphasised: the 300,000 sold tickets signify that in terms of spectators,

this will be the largest sports event in Hungary of all time.

In the history of world championships in the sport, never before have so many athletes participated in a single event, as those who will compete in the Hungarian capital, and the 63 Hungarian participants are also a record number.

The championship will have over 50 official venues in Budapest including airports, hotels, training tracks, with more than 10,000 people working at these locations. More than 3,000 accredited journalists and television personnel will arrive for the world championship, expecting over a billion TV viewers with the events of the championship.

According to the Tuesday statement of World Athletics (WA), all of the Americans who triumphed individually at the World Championships held in Eugene last year on their home turf will participate in the Hungarian capital. More than half (82) of the American team will return to the World Championships, including 23 individual podium finishers and 22 medallists from the Tokyo Olympics.

The event begins next Saturday,

and it will have all its important moments available for free and live on the public M4 Sport channel’s website,

as stated by David Székely, the channel director.

‘Our commitment and task are to provide viewers with the opportunity and assistance to watch all the crucial moments live on M4 Sport and to hear the opinions of both domestic and foreign stars first-hand,’ he expressed on Wednesday evening on the M1 news channel.

He added that broadcasting athletics world championships is incredibly challenging since three to four events are happening simultaneously in the arena. Therefore, it’s often a very demanding task to find and select the appropriate camera angles. The International Association of Athletics Federations will bring its own TV team, and deciding on the visual experience of the broadcasts is mostly their responsibility. However, M4 Sport will also have its own cameras, which, for example, will follow Hungarian athletes.

The channel director mentioned that a significant amount of pre-planning was required to work out the broadcasting process, with an international TV training session for the championships th taking place a year ago.
