‘Péter, Péter. Are you threatening the Center for Fundamental Rights like some kind of Arrow Cross janitor merged with a Lenin Boy? Is this the same place you used to visit for free drinks?’ Director General of the Center for Fundamental Rights Miklós Szánthó said in a recent video posted on his Facebook page, calling out Tisza Party candidate and MEP Péter Magyar.
According to Szánthó, Magyar has attacked the institution because ‘we have exposed that, acting on instructions from Brussels, you have gathered around yourself everyone from the entire MSZP to half of SZDSZ’. The two acronyms refer to left-wing Hungarian political parties: MSZP, the socialist party of former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány; and SZDSZ, a now-defunct liberal party that once governed in coalition with MSZP.
‘However, if you take the bun, the synthetic meat patty, and the fake cheese, throw them into a blender and mix them together, you will not get a Big Mac. What you will get instead is pig swill,’ Szánthó warned Magyar, using the analogy to criticize the questionable composition of Magyar’s proposed cabinet and campaign team.
To drive the point home, Szánthó even demonstrated the metaphor in the video itself, removing a Big Mac from its box, placing its individual ingredients into an actual blender, and then switching it on before the camera.
