Minnesota ICE Protests Are Getting Out of Control

Anti-ICE protests are getting more and more intense in the progressive city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where protester Renee Good was shot by an agent earlier this month. Videos online show demonstrators disrupting church service; and even appear to have accidentally beaten up one of their own, mistaking the unfortunate man for an ICE agent or ICE supporter.

The state of Minnesota has been in the national and international news a lot lately, and for all the wrong reasons.

First, in December last year, social media user Nick Shirley erupted a scandal after she posted footage of supposed childcare centres in the state receiving state funding. The facilities, run by Somali immigrants, had very little sign of activity, suggesting wide-scale fraud. One of the daycar centres infamously had the word ‘learning’ misspelt as ‘learing’ on its front sign. As a result, Governor Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 US presidential election, has announced that he would not be seeking re-election for a third term in the fall.

Then in January, an ICE officer shot protester Renee Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after she allegedly tried to run him over with her car. Demonstrations against immigration enforcement agents apprehending illegal aliens had been ongoing in the progressive city already—evidently, since the shooting itself took place at such a protest—but since the incident, their intensity has been escalated to dangerous levels.

The X channel Breaking911 posted a video which shows ICE protesters entering a church in the state capital of St Paul, Minnesota—originally reported as Minneapolis by mistake by the X page—and disrupting the service to chant Good’s name. Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was present for the incident.

The activists reportedly chose to enter and disrupt the service in that particular church because they believed its pastor is a local ICE field office director, when in reality, the two individuals just happen to share the same name.

Back in August, a Catholic church in nearby Minneapolis, Minnesota was targeted by a transgender shooter. A 22-year-old biological man identifying as a woman opened fire at school children attending mass, killing two and injuring 17 more people.

Breaking911 has posted another concerning video, which shows a citizen carrying a rifle back in St Paul. Although the man in question does not explicitly state that he is targeting ICE agents, he is claiming that he is there to ‘protect my people’, while the video’s caption states that he is defending illegal aliens in his neighbourhood from law enforcement.

Arguably, the most bizarre clip coming out of the Minneapolis ICE protests was posted by another popular right-wing X account, going by the screenname Clown World. The video they shared shows a man lying on the ground, surrounded by aggressive, masked protestors. By-standers then are heard shouting ‘let him up, let him up’ and ‘he is one of us’, after which the victim is helped up by the crowd but has trouble standing.

This suggests that the protesters likely beat up one of their fellow anti-ICE activists, mistaking him for either an ICE agent or someone who is in support of immigration enforcement.

Progressive protestors harming or harassing someone they mistook for an ICE agent would not be a unique occurrence.

Another video circulating online, this time out of Los Angeles, California, is of a woman who comes up to a man in his car to hurl insults at him, believing him to be an ICE agent. The driver is actually a streamer named Conner, who was broadcasting himself on the live-streaming site Kick: the woman simply mistook the decorative lights in his rear seat area and trunk for blue police sirens…
