‘Viktor Orbán has been proven right. Again. Zelenskyy would have been better off listening to him,’ Communications Director for the long-ruling Hungarian Fidesz–KDNP coalition Tamás Menczer wrote in his caption for a short clip of Prime Minister Orbán. In that clip, shared by Menczer on Facebook, the Prime Minister is talking about trying to convince President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine that ‘time is working against you’ during their meeting last summer.
‘Of course, there is justice, history, attacks, many things, but believe me, the longer the war lasts, the more you will lose, so use me to try to make peace as soon as possible, and then we’ll see what happens next. But time is definitely not on your side,’ PM Orbán goes on to recall his end of the conversation with President Zelenskyy.
Menczer argues Orbán has now been proven right because, under Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan—if it is implemented—Ukraine would be required to give up most of the territory it has lost over the course of the war. In return, Ukraine would receive $100 billion of the frozen Russian assets to help rebuild the country.
Under the plan, Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk would be recognized as effectively belonging to Russia, even by the United States. The situation in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would be ‘frozen’ along the current front line, amounting to a de facto recognition of the existing lines of control.
The original poster, Menczer, also left a comment under the video, declaring that ‘There will be a Budapest Peace Summit!’ as well.
