Hungary’s unusually heavy snowfall has evidently caused some significant disturbances in the lives of the local population, be it in traffic or home maintenance. However, there were at least a couple of creatures who were more than delighted about the increased winter precipitation.
The two polar cubs in the Sóstó Zoo in Nyíregyháza, a city in the Eastern part of Hungary, got to see snow for the first time in their lives!
The two cubs were born at the zoo in November 2024. The video of them having fun and rolling around in their snow-covered enclosure garnered quite a lot of attention on social media.
The post on the zoo’s official Facebook page has over 30,000 likes. Meanwhile, on X, local journalist Szabolcs Panyi—who otherwise spends most of his professional life criticizing the long-reigning Fidesz government in the country—also shared a brief clip of the arctic mammals, and got rewarded with an outstanding 109,000 likes and 7,000 reposts within a day.
Szabolcs Panyi on X (formerly Twitter): “❄️🐻❄️ Finally some positive news from Hungary. As record cold and snow hit Central Europe, polar bear cubs at Nyíregyháza Zoo are seeing real snow for the very first time in their lives. (Video by the zoo.) pic.twitter.com/Ize4Lw2Nrl / X”
