Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered a combative address on Monday at the Patriots for Europe rally in Mormant-sur-Vernisson, France, describing Hungary as the European Union’s ‘black sheep’, Brussels’ ‘worst nightmare’, the ‘hope of European patriots’, and the ‘last Christian bastion’. His speech, broadcast live by Hungarian television, was a defence of national sovereignty, cultural identity, and a stark rebuke of EU leadership.

Orbán accused Brussels of being led by ‘egg-headed bureaucrats’ who, unlike Hungarians, have no understanding of what it means to fight for freedom, democracy, and the homeland. ‘They should be quiet and start working,’ he said. He firmly rejected any notion that Hungary would bow to EU pressure, stating: ‘We, Hungarians, will not kneel before Brussels.’

He praised Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Rally, as a loyal friend and tireless leader guided by honour. ‘France must be a rich country,’ he added, ‘if it can afford the luxury of not having Marine Le Pen as its president.’

Orbán rejected the EU’s migration policy, calling it not migration but ‘organized population replacement’, aimed at dismantling Europe’s cultural foundations. He reiterated that Hungary would continue to act instead of pointing fingers at international law or Brussels. ‘We stand with the people and we fight for them,’ he declared.

He warned against Brussels-led militarization and further involvement in the Ukraine conflict. ‘We don’t want our sons coming home in coffins. We don’t want an Afghanistan next door,’ he said, calling instead for a ceasefire, peace talks, and a return to diplomacy. Brussels, he claimed, is pushing Europe into a ‘war economy’, accumulating massive debt and undermining national control over finances.

Referencing Pentecost, Orbán drew a parallel to a new European unity emerging in the language of sovereignty and freedom. He claimed that nations from Spain to Poland are now speaking the same language: one of resistance to Brussels’ centralism.

Orbán portrayed Hungary as an example of patriotic success: a country that fought back against globalist influence, rewrote its constitution to enshrine Christian identity and family values, and built a border fence to stop illegal migration. ‘In Hungary, the number of migrants is zero,’ he emphasized, adding that Hungary is free of antisemitism, street violence, and urban riots.

He also repeated a now-familiar claim: ‘This is not migration. This is a population exchange orchestrated by Soros and Brussels.’ According to Orbán, Hungary protects families, respects working mothers—who are exempt from income tax for life—and takes pride in its national identity.

He criticized the EU for punishing Hungary financially, saying that the country is under sanctions and forced to pay one million euros per day for refusing to accept migrants. ‘That’s a lot of money for us,’ he said, ‘but it’s worth paying to secure our future.’

Orbán warned that the European right is under constant attack by unelected judges and bureaucrats, but this will change. ‘We are uniting and advancing everywhere,’ he said, emphasizing that Hungary needs the victory of European patriots. ‘Without you, we cannot liberate ourselves from the torture rack of Brussels,’ he told the French audience.

‘Our story proves it’s possible. You just need to want it—and you will succeed,’ he concluded, urging Europe’s conservative forces to stand strong and win back the continent. ‘We are leaving behind a European, Christian, and patriotic country for our children and grandchildren. That is our story.’
