ZF Chassis Modules, a global market leader among German automotive suppliers, is investing around 10 billion forints in Debrecen, creating 230 new jobs and reinforcing Hungary’s role in the international vehicle industry, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the investment by ZF Chassis Modules Hungary Ltd will focus on the production of front and rear axles exclusively for electric vehicles manufactured at BMW’s Debrecen plant. The components will be delivered directly to the neighbouring factory and installed shortly after production.

The Hungarian state supported the project with approximately 1 billion forints, contributing to the creation of new jobs. Szijjártó highlighted that the facility will operate with state-of-the-art machinery and rely entirely on green energy.

The minister said BMW’s arrival marked a turning point in Debrecen’s history, opening new development opportunities for local companies while attracting global high-tech firms. These investments, he added, have created hundreds of jobs and helped provide long-term prospects for young people in the region.

Szijjártó stressed that the latest investment further strengthens Hungary’s automotive sector, which has seen rapid growth over the past decade. During this period, Debrecen has played a key role, with the sector’s total production value more than quadrupling to around 13 trillion forints annually by last year.

He also noted that Debrecen has been one of the main beneficiaries of Hungary’s sovereign economic policy over the past 15 years. Two of the three largest investments in the country’s history have taken place in the city simultaneously, he said. Over the past decade, the government has supported 101 large corporate investments in Debrecen worth around 600 billion forints, triggering total developments of about 4,600 billion forints and creating some 23,000 jobs.

According to the minister, Debrecen has effectively become one of the centres of the modern global automotive industry. In recent years, more than 100 billion has been spent on infrastructure upgrades, including roads, cycle paths, railway lines, as well as educational and environmental projects.

Szijjártó emphasized that these developments were made possible by channelling public funds into domestic growth. He warned of growing pressure in Europe to divert resources toward a war economy, but reaffirmed that Hungary’s government remains committed to using Hungarian taxpayers’ money to develop Hungary and its regions.

He pledged that as long as the current government remains in power, investments and jobs will remain secure, and Hungary will continue to stand for peace and stability. The minister concluded by saying that despite a challenging international environment, Hungary has successfully reduced the development gap between the eastern and western parts of the country, a process in which Debrecen played a decisive role.
