Budapest hotels reached over 86 per cent occupancy during the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, hosting nearly 100,000 guests, mostly from abroad, as Formula 1 boosted tourism and accommodation demand across the capital and nearby towns.

Budapest hotels welcomed almost 100,000 guests during the 40th Hungarian Grand Prix from 1–3 August, with occupancy rates exceeding 86 per cent, according to data from the National Tourism Data Supply Centre (NTAK) released by Visit Hungary.

The 96,000 visitors spent 180,000 nights in the capital’s hotels, representing year-on-year increases of 17 per cent and 15 per cent respectively. Foreign guests accounted for 91 per cent of all arrivals, with international overnight stays up 20 per cent compared to last year’s already high base.

Accommodation across the city was close to fully booked, with lower-category hotels filled to capacity and three-star properties reaching nearly 88 per cent occupancy. Strong demand pushed average room rates to double those of the previous weekend. The largest number of foreign guests came from the United Kingdom, followed by Poland, Germany, the United States, and Romania.

The effect of the race weekend was also felt in the surrounding towns near Hungaroring, including Mogyoród, Gödöllő, Kerepes, Veresegyház, and Nagytarcsa, where guest numbers tripled and overnight stays increased sixfold compared to the prior weekend.

Visit Hungary CEO Olivér Csendes said the event further strengthened Budapest’s tourism brand. The national marketing organization supported the race with social media campaigns, leisure tips for visitors beyond the race schedule, and informational materials distributed to 21 hotels in the capital.
