Balázs Németh, the spokesperson for the Fidesz faction in the Hungarian National Assembly, has taken to Facebook to rail against the EU bureaucracy. In a post made on Friday, 27 June, he wrote:
‘Well, this has really made them angry! The Brussels bureaucrats cannot stand the fact that Hungary does NOT support Ukraine’s accession to the EU…The leaders of Europe have already decided among themselves that they will push the Ukrainians into the EU anyway, which means that they have to somehow get the Hungarians out of the way.
They have two options. In good “democrat” fashion, legal tricks are used to circumvent the rule that enlargement requires unanimity, ie, 27 YES votes. We know that democracy and the rule of law are only important as long as the liberals have their way. If something doesn’t happen the way they want, then the rules can be broken at will. Even the EU’s own fundamental rules. The other option is to orchestrate a change of government from the outside, to get the Hungarian national government that is blocking Ukraine’s accession out of the way, and put in its place an obedient puppet government,’ the spokesperson wrote.
‘They are working on both options in Brussels, at full throttle. If they succeed in either, it will be a disaster for Hungary. This is (also) what the next 10 months are about,’ he warned at the end of his message.
