US billionaire Elon Musk has praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s hard stance on migration recently, reposting a clip from a discussion with several right-wing political commentators and activists in Budapest. In the video, Orbán explains the progressive-globalist plan to replace the native-born population of Europe with immigrants in an attempt to change the core of societies.
The clip quickly went viral after Musk’s repost, garnering over 15M views and 4,000 likes in a little more than 24 hours. The video was also picked up by right-wing commentators and Republican figures, like former security adviser to US President Donald Trump, Gen Mike Flynn. ‘This is a global leader who is NOT a globalist,’ Flynn wrote about Orbán, adding that this is why he ‘gets attacked by many on the left’ for his views on many issues, ‘never mind mass illegal migration.’
Hungary and Prime Minister Orbán have earned recognition among conservatives globally since 2015, when he took a firm stance against illegal migration in contrast to other EU member states. As a result, Hungary does not face the security crises that many Western European countries are currently struggling with. Since then, several other member states have tried to follow Hungary’s lead; however, the European Commission still sticks to its failed migration policy while punishing the Orbán government for its dissenting stance.
Since the second Trump administration took office at the beginning of 2025, mass migration has become a flashpoint of diplomatic tensions between Washington and Brussels. Vice President JD Vance heavily criticized Western European countries for giving up ‘shared transatlantic values’, including Christianity, and urged them to step up efforts to tackle mass migration before it is too late.
In a speech at the United Nations in September 2025, Trump himself warned European nations that irregular migration is ‘destroying their heritage’ and bringing ‘unmitigated immigration disaster.’ He called on European leaders to end the ‘failed experiment of open borders.’
According to recent media reports, the US State Department has directed diplomats in Europe to lobby allied governments to push back against pro-migration policies. Embassies have reportedly been asked to collect data on migrant-related crime and human rights incidents and to highlight perceived negative social impacts of migration. The memorandum, seen by Reuters, frames migration not just as a domestic concern of the US but as a shared civilizational issue across Western allies.

While many member states already try to get tough on mass migration, that kind of internalization of the anti-migration agenda by the United States could further accelerate these processes. Many countries in the EU, including Hungary and Poland, have already declared that they will not implement the new EU Migration Pact, which would continue the same flawed policy that led to the loss of countless European lives since 2015—not to mention the irreversible changes it caused in Western European societies such as Sweden, France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
While the debate on tackling migration is already shifting in favour of Viktor Orbán, if the majority of EU member states were to follow Hungary’s lead, it would be a major victory for the country and could further elevate its international recognition.
