With the establishment of the new production hall, modern laboratory, and the deployment of one of the most advanced production lines, the company is getting closer to its sustainability goals. Dreher aims to make its production processes carbon neutral by 2030.

Dreher Sörgyárak, with a seven billion forint investment, has increased its aluminium can production capacity by 120 percent, the company’s CEO, Gábor Békefi said to MTI.

He added that the production capacity of the Kőbánya plant in Budapest has increased from the previous 50,000 cans per hour to 110,000 cans per hour. As a result, in addition to meeting domestic demand, Dreher has become a potential exporter within the Asahi Group, its owner. He noted that aluminium can packaging accounts for 82 per cent of retail sales in the domestic market, and the popularity of flavoured and non-alcoholic flavoured products continues to grow. Therefore, it is a significant competitive advantage for the company that it no longer needs to import this type of packaging.

With the establishment of the new production hall, modern laboratory, and the deployment of one of the most advanced production lines, the company is getting closer to its sustainability goals. Dreher aims to make its production processes carbon neutral by 2030. The recently completed investment is expected to result in lower specific energy consumption. The CEO emphasised that the new line will be capable of handling packaging materials from renewable sources and producing fully cardboard-packaged multipacks, completely eliminating plastic packaging.

József Bai, the financial director, stated in response to a question that the development, which has been designated as a priority investment from a national economic perspective by the government, was financed from the company’s own resources.

He recalled that since the change in ownership in 2017, when Dreher Sörgyárak became part of the Japanese Asahi Group, they have multiplied production investments. Among these, he highlighted that prior to the recently completed seven-billion-forint investment, they had allocated 1.1 billion forints for compressor replacements since 2019, 1.6 billion forints for the domestic production of flavoured products, and 1.9 billion forints for filter replacements.

Dreher Sörgyárak Zrt., founded in 1854, achieved a revenue of 74.2 billion forints last year, with a net profit of 3 billion forints, compared to the previous year’s 63.4 billion net revenue and 2.6 billion forints net profit.
