On 1 September, the Adaptive Hussars 2025 (ADHU 25) national defence exercise will begin, marking the largest, most complex military operation of the Hungarian Defence Forces since the regime change, the Ministry of Defence announced on Saturday.
The large-scale drill, which carries significance both at the national and allied levels, will involve extensive troop movements and equipment transfers. As a result, residents across Hungary should expect increased road, rail, and air traffic, as well as heightened noise levels in several regions.
Between 1–5 September, the Kiss József 86th Helicopter Brigade will conduct a search-and-rescue exercise in the Mátra region. As part of the training, an ‘Air Wolf Hunting’ operation involving intensive tactical flights and combat drills will take place around the Gyöngyös Pipishegy airfield and the broader Mátra area, with exercises scheduled daily during daytime and, in some cases, late evening hours.
Military convoys will also cause increased road traffic. On Sunday morning and again next Saturday afternoon, troop movements will affect the route from Szolnok through Jászberény to Gyöngyös and Mátrafüred, leading to possible delays.
Further troop and equipment transfers are expected between 2–5 September near Hajdúhadház. The ministry warned of temporary disruptions caused by both ground and aerial activities, including the intense noise of helicopter manoeuvres.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that Adaptive Hussars 2025 is a critical exercise to test the readiness and capabilities of Hungary’s armed forces, while also reinforcing cooperation within allied defence frameworks.
