Retired General Wesley Clark has been caught on a secret recording, claiming that George Soros had been trying to influence elections in Bosnia and Hungary, and admitting that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary is rightful in having objections to his influence.

Retired General Wesley Clark, an advisory board member of the leftist American NGO Action for Democracy, can be heard discussing Hungarian American billionaire George Soros’ efforts to interfere in the domestic politics of European countries, including Hungary, in an undercover video published online.

So far, an X (Twitter) user with the handle @MagaBabe2024 has been identified as the primary source of the Project Veritas-style videos. The identity of the undercover reporter capturing the footage is yet to be revealed.

In the video, General Clark can be heard claiming that ‘private individuals’ from the US are trying to interfere in foreign elections, naming the infamous George Soros as an example. He said about Soros:

‘He funded the efforts in Bosnia, he funded the efforts in Hungary. That’s why Viktor Orbán hates him. George Soros would say Viktor Orbán is the guy.

But who’s George Soros? He’s an American. He happened to grow up in Hungary.

Why is he controlling the politics of Hungary? We don’t want that.’

According to the findings of an investigation by the National Information Center, Action for Democracy has provided 1.8 billion HUF (around $5 million) in funding to the Everybody’s Hungary Movement (Mindenki Magyarországa Mozgalom, MMM), a civil movement headed by opposition prime minister candidate Péter Márki-Zay. Márki-Zay was not a member of any political party during the 2022 parliamentary elections and won the 5-party opposition alliance’s primary election as an independent.

Given that MMM was not a political party at the time, it was less of a legal threat for them to take funding from foreign actors. However, with the passing of the Defence of National Sovereignty Act in December 2023, that loophole has been closed, as civil organizations and media companies will be investigated by the newly established Sovereignty Protection Office for potential foreign interference in case they receive excessive funding from abroad.

The new Office, having only started its operations earlier this month, is already investigating the recent revelations of Action for Democracy, the Office’s President Tamás Lánczi has informed, as we reported earlier.

Márki-Zay has openly admitted to cooperating with Action for Democracy multiple times during his campaign.

Action For Democracy Council Member Jokes About Coup Against Erdoğan

Apparently, the leaders of the American NGO can be quite flippant about influencing foreign elections and politics.

In the newly revealed tape, General Clark can be heard joking that

it is obvious that the US government was not behind the 2016 elections, since, as he put it, ‘had we done so, I’m told, it would have been successful’.

The Action for Democracy advisor also seems to regard foreign election interference as ‘business as usual’ for the US government, citing the Cold War era as justification. ‘For years, we interfered in the Italian elections. We made sure that the communists never won in Italy…and in Greece,’ he noted.

General Wesley K. Clark should be considered a reputable source of insider information about world political affairs. He served as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO from 1997 to 2000. He has special experience regarding the Eastern European region as well, given he commanded Operation Allied Force during the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s.
