For the first time in ten years, the World Cat Federation (WCF) held one of its shows in Budapest, Hungary. Feline lovers gathered at the Angyalföld Sports Centre for the event on 27–28 September.
WCF awards cats and their owners annually, based on their proprietary point system. However, those attending the cat show in Budapest were most likely less interested in the competition, and more interested in seeing the cute kitties.
Still, for the record, an Abyssinian cat from Russia is currently in the lead for the 2025 WCF Best Cat title with 16,525 points, according to the organization’s website. He is followed by a male of the Sphynx Canadian breed from France with 15,282 points, then a male Russian ragdoll cat with 14,727 points.
Last year’s winner was Bruno, a male Toyger cat hailing from the Philippines.
Beyond the rankings, he main focus of the event was to emphasize the distinction between legal and illegal breeders while also promoting awareness of responsible animal care. The programme also featured contests, lectures, and activities for children. Visitors had the chance to learn about various cat breeds at the booths, and breed preservation associations offered them valuable information, Hungary Today has reported.
The World Cat Federation has a long history, having been founded in August 1988 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, the organization is now registered in Germany.
