Hungarian martial artists Luana and Viviana Márton, twin sisters both born on 16 February 2006, won a gold and silver medal, respectively, at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China.
Luana won in the welterweight division (140–147 pounds, 63.5–66.7 kilogrammes), defeating Milena Titoneli from Brazil in the final. Luana Márton was also awarded the tournament’s MVP title at the end.
Meanwhile, Viviana came in second in the lightweight category (130–135, pounds, 59.0–61.2 kilogrammes). She lost to Wafa Masghouni from Tunisia in her last match-up.
When she was competing in her sister’s weight class at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, she actually won the taekwondo competition, delivering one of the six gold medals for the Hungarian delegation at the games.
‘I was calm, I came in for the day thinking I would do my best and whatever happens, happens…Our dream with Luana was that we both get on the podium. This was our second World Championships together, I am very glad that we were able to do it. We almost got the two golds, maybe next time,’ she told the Hungarian sports daily Nemzeti Sport.
The Márton sisters were the only athletes from the Hungarian delegation to win medals at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships. Thus, Hungary ended the tournament with one gold and one silver, placing them in seventh place on the medal table.
