An X user by the handle @AnnaOdesitka has posted a tweet claiming Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary ‘will disconnect [the] internet and arrest, execute anyone protesting’ after losing the Hungarian parliamentary election this Sunday.
In her bio, the user claims to be a Ukrainian OBGYN doctor ‘born and raised’ in Odesa, Ukraine. She also set her location to Odesa on X. However, details of her account show that she is connected through the United States app store.
She posted the tweet in question in response to someone asking what her father thinks about the upcoming election, suggesting that she has Hungarian family connections. The beginning part of her post claims to be based on statements by her father.
Yes. My father said Orban will declare victory no matter outcome. Trump will recognize Orban as official leader. As will Putin. Then violence will start. Orban will disconnect internet and arrest, execute anyone protesting.

Unless Hungarians have Maidan, they will fall to… https://t.co/r6JevoD8Oz
She goes on to write that ‘Unless Hungarians have Maidan, they will fall to Orban’, referring to the 2013–2014 protests by locals sparked by President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine’s refusal to sign an association agreement with the EU, which led to the President’s eventual removal from office by parliament and exile. These events have become known as ‘Euromaidan’, named after Maidan Square, a focal point of the protests. Around 100 people died during the uprising.
The poster also describes the current Orbán administration in Hungary as a ‘russian n@zi regime’, despite the well-known hatred of all Slavic people by the Nazis in 20th-century Germany.
The @AnnaOdesitka account on X has around 24,000 followers, and its owner is not a known figure. British comedian John Cleese, however, is a world-famous artist known for his work with the comedy group Monty Python in the 1970s. He responded to Odesitka’s post, writing ‘Remember 1956’. Strangely, Cleese has had a deluge of tweets about the upcoming Hungarian election, critical of Prime Minister Orbán.
Despite what the tweet claims, there is no precedent of a criminal case being brought against peaceful protestors in Hungary under PM Orbán. There have been no cases of criminal prosecution for social media posts that go against the administration’s narrative, either, unlike in Western European countries such as the United Kingdom or Germany.
