To honour the HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Programme, Hungarian Post issued a commemorative stamp on Wednesday in Budapest.
At the event, ministerial commissioner Orsolya Ferencz highlighted that some of the most uplifting moments for the Hungarian scientific community are when stamps are released to celebrate scientific achievements. She added that such initiatives help draw attention to the fact that science is one of the most important guarantees of humanity’s progress.
Ferencz noted that the popularity of the HUNOR programme, especially among young people, carries the promise of continuity. There will be successors, she said—the next generation, for whom knowledge, science, and determination will become true values. ‘If a person works hard, tirelessly, and with talent for their goals, they can even reach the stars,’ she stressed.
Chairman and CEO of Hungarian Post László Géza explained that the stamp sheet and envelope feature the Csodaszarvas (Miraculous Deer) constellation. Known from the ancient Hungarian conquest myth, its depiction as a constellation symbolizes both the fateful guidance of space exploration and Hungary’s ability to secure its place in space research. He added that the common motifs across the stamp, envelope, and special edition are the official HUNOR logo and motto.
Astronaut Tibor Kapu emphasized that learning is an integral part of being an astronaut and that continuous learning must be part of daily life. ‘The world is constantly changing, and we can only stand our ground if we change with it,’ he said.
Speaking about the stamp and envelope, Kapu noted that they are small, lightweight objects, but carry immense symbolic power. They leave an imprint, represent value, convey meaning, and connect people. ‘The nation-uniting power of the HUNOR programme is what the stamp and envelope truly represent,’ he underlined.
According to a press release by Hungarian Post, the stamp—designed by Graphasel Design Studio—together with the accompanying envelope and postmark, features the official logo of the HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Programme, the geometric constellation of the Csodaszarvas, and the inscription ‘Hungarian to Orbit 2025’.
