Hungary’s media regulator has approved roughly 84 million forints in funding for television news, current affairs, and cultural programmes, while also launching investigations into programme obligations and reviewing several media complaints.

The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has approved approximately 84 million forints in funding for the production of television programmes, according to a statement released by the authority’s communications directorate on Thursday.

At its 3 March meeting, the council decided to support several television productions under the fourth round of the TVÁLLANDÓ2025 tender programme. The grants include nearly 60 million forints for the production of television news programmes, more than 9 million for current affairs magazine shows, and over 15 million for cultural magazine programmes.

In addition to funding decisions, the council also launched a regulatory procedure related to programme schedule obligations and examined several media contents for compliance with classification rules.

The authority initiated administrative proceedings against Mosoly Média Nonprofit Ltd, the operator of the small community radio service Radio Smile broadcasting on 89.9 MHz in Kiskunfélegyháza. According to the Media Council, the station may have breached programme schedule commitments specified in its regulatory contract during the broadcast week of 15–21 December 2025. The investigation also concerns possible violations of legal requirements regarding the broadcasting of public service content.

Besides, the council reviewed complaints concerning the November and December 2025 printed special issues of the newspaper Bors. The examined content was assessed in relation to potential incitement to hatred, exclusion, and compliance with child protection regulations applicable to press products. The council concluded that no legal violations had occurred.

Similarly, the authority found no breaches in the 20 September 2025 broadcast of the television talent show Megasztár on TV2. The programme had been reviewed following viewer complaints regarding possible incitement to hatred, exclusion, and compliance with classification rules.

Another programme examined by the council was the 26 October 2025 episode of Sztárban Sztár All Stars, also aired on TV2. The investigation focused on compliance with classification regulations and was likewise initiated after a viewer complaint. The Media Council determined that the broadcast did not violate any legal provisions.

The full agenda of the Media Council’s weekly meetings, as well as its decisions, is published on the authority’s website. Newly adopted documents become publicly available after the completion of the necessary authentication and administrative procedures.
