Popular far-left and self-described socialist streamer Hasan ‘HasanAbi’ Piker has recently had his Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) revoked by the United Kingdom’s government, he revealed this on a livestream.
His uncle Cenk Uygur, creator of the left-wing online political show The Young Turks where Piker got his start in media, was also banned from travelling to the UK. Both Piker and Uygur were set to appear at the SXSW London multi-arts festival this month. The family duo was also scheduled at an event hosted by the Oxford Union Society.
The president of the organization—which describes itself as ‘the last bastion of free speech’—Arwa Elrayess has put out a statement declaring that the ‘eleventh-hour’ revocation of their two guests’ visas is a ‘direct threat to free expression’ and vowed to host them remotely at the event.
This statement by the Oxford Union presidents contradicts the organization’s earlier conduct. Last month, the Oxford Union disinvited right-wing online personality Carl Benjamin from one of their events the day before he was scheduled to appear.
It is unclear why Piker and Uygur’s travel permits were revoked. The UK government did confirm the ban, according to the BBC. However, they gave a vague reason for their decision, claiming that their presence in the country ‘may not be conducive to the public good’.
Previously, the government has denied entry to right-wing public figures, such as Eva Vlaardingerbroek and Ada Lluch.
Piker has been involved in a number of serious controversies. In the US Congress, even a bipartisan condemnation of Piker—along with right-wing media personality Candace Owens—has been introduced by Democrat Congressman Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey and Republican Congressman Mike Lawler of New Yorker for his ‘antisemitic hate-filled rhetoric’.
Piker himself certainly suspects that it was his opinions on Israel that earned him the travel ban by the United Kingdom, where the left-wing Labour Party is currently in power. On his stream addressing the issue, he claimed: ‘Obviously, the interest of Israel takes the highest priority.’
The streamer has made comments in the past such as expressing his preference to the terror group Hamas over the Israeli government, even saying that ‘Hamas is a thousand times better than Israel’; and saying that ‘it doesn’t matter if rapes happened on 7 October,’ it still does not change his opinion on the matter.
However, Piker’s long list of controversies does not end with ones pertaining to the Jewish state.
The Hasan Piker Dog Shocking Incident
Ironically, on the day of 7 October 2025, Piker triggered a slew of online criticism against himself, after he appeared to shock his dog with an electronic collar on stream.
The dog named Kaya had always been conspicuously stationary, staying in one place in the background of the stream for hours on end. On the infamous stream, Piker yelled at his pet for moving, and pushed something off-screen. The dog immediately yelped, seemingly in pain, and got back to her place.
Hasan Piker also made the statement on one of his livestreams in August 2019 that ‘America deserved 9/11,’ and has platformed Houthi pirates on his broadcast, during which he enthusiastically praised their actions.
Also, in further inflammatory statements, he has called for the killing of American landlords, saying: ‘let the streets soak in their red capitalist bloods.’
