Four Budapest cinemas, Cinema MOM, Pólus, Lurdy and GoBuda, will host one last screening series of the Harry Potter films between 7 August and 1 October. Organized by Pannónia Movie Ltd, this will be the final opportunity for audiences to experience the beloved saga on the big screen for the foreseeable future. The decision comes as Warner Bros prepares a new television adaptation of J K Rowling’s bestselling novels, which will temporarily prevent the 2001 to 2011 films from being shown in cinemas.
The screenings will feature the digitally restored 4K versions of all eight films. At Pólus, Lurdy and GoBuda, the movies will be shown dubbed in Hungarian, while Cinema MOM will offer both subtitled and dubbed versions. The marathon also coincides with a special milestone, as this autumn marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the fourth instalment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The marathon begins in August with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, then Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. September continues with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Each film will be shown for a week before the next takes its place, allowing fans to relive the magical journey in order, from the first visit to Hogwarts to the final battle against Voldemort.
According to the organizers, this is a unique chance for audiences to see the complete saga in pristine quality on the big screen before it disappears from cinemas for an extended period.
