The co-founder of the Warsaw, Poland-based news site Visegrád 24, Stefan Tompson, has been captured on video while being accosted by a group of pro-Palestine men in London, United Kingdom.
The clip was shared by the popular X account of Visegrád 24 on Tuesday, 19 May.
It starts with Tompson trying to get a word in, asking: ‘Are you going to let me speak?’, while being surrounded by a group of men of Middle Eastern appearance. One of the men informed a nearby member of the group that Tompson is from the website Visegrád 24, and then described him as a ‘pro-Israel shill’.
In response, the crowd got animated and started to chant ‘Free, Free, Free Phalesteen’ and the infamous chant ‘From the river to the sea,’ which suggests that the state of Israel should not exist.
One of the younger men in the crowd got especially carried away. He looked directly into the camera and stated: ‘The Jews, man, are going to get beheaded one by one,’ followed by the exclamations ‘you dirty Jews’ and ‘big up Palestine.’
In the tweet by Visegrád 24, the man making these statements is identified as ‘an 18-year-old Algerian who has since been arrested by British authorities.’
Tompson made another attempt to have a conversation with the rowdy crowd, but he was ignored. Instead, they kept addressing the camera, shouting more pro-Palestine and anti-Jewish remarks. This is where the video cuts off, with the footage running for a little under a minute.
The video of Tompson being accosted by a group of Middle Easterners has received 2,000 likes, 587 retweets, and 111 comments in the 12 hours since its posting. The comments are overwhelmingly on the side of Tompson, with many users calling for the deportation of the presumably Muslim men who berated him.
What Is Visegrád 24?
The news site Visegrád 24 was founded in January 2020. Its name is a reference to the Visegrád 4 alliance formed by Hungary, Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia in 1991 following the fall of the communist bloc, to integrate their economies for a bigger consumer market.
Content on their X account mostly focuses on opposition to left-wing progressive policies in Europe.
As for their coverage of Israel, the recent articles on their website seem to be in support of US–Israeli strikes on Iran. As for their older content on the topic, there are multiple pieces criticizing opposition to Israel’s war against Hamas.
