Turnout reached 77.80 per cent by 6:30 pm in Hungary’s parliamentary election, with Győr-Moson County recording the highest participation and almost 6 million voters casting ballots nationwide.

A Total of 77.80 per cent of eligible voters, or 5 856 515people, had cast their ballots by 6:30pm in Sunday’s parliamentary election, according to data released by the National Election Office (NVI).

Voter turnout was highest in Győr-Moson County at 81.95 per cent, corresponding to 360 235 voters. The lowest turnout was recorded in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, where 71.92 per cent, or 479 606 people, had voted.

In the capital, 80.96 per cent of voters, or 1 271 446 people, had cast their ballots by 6:30pm.

For comparison, turnout at 5:30pm stood at 49.52 per cent in the first round of the 1998 parliamentary election and 65.56 per cent in 2002. The figure was 61.72 per cent in the first round of the 2006 election, 59.28 per cent in 2010, 56.77 per cent eight years ago, and 62.92 per cent four years ago.

The latest election data published at 6:30pm was in 2018 and 2022. In 2018 68,13 per cent, and in 2022 67,80 casted their votes.

At 7 am 3,46 per cent voted, at 9 am 16,89 per cent, 37.98 per cent had cast their ballots by 11 am and 54.13 per cent by 1 pm. At 5 pm 74.23 per cent casted their votes.
