A heated confrontation between Grammy-nominated R&B singer Tish Hyman and California State Senator Scott Wiener (a very fitting last name for the story) has garnered a lot of attention on the social media platforms Instagram and X.
The footage was shared by Hyman herself. In it, she is addressing Senator Wiener from the audience at an event, claiming that she had been assaulted in the women’s locker room at an unspecified Gold’s Gym location by a biological man identifying as a woman. When the Senator told her that ‘trans women’ are also women, Hyman forcefully retorted that they are not, drawing boos and jeers from the rest of the audience.
Appealing to the presumably progressive leanings of the crowd, Hyman repeatedly stated that she is black and lesbian to give her words more credibility. She also claimed that her offender has a criminal conviction for domestic violence, and pleaded with Senator Scott to do more for women’s safety in ‘women-only spaces’, as current California law dictates that self-identifying females be allowed to use women’s facilities at commercial establishments.
‘I do see a lot of the bills that you’ve passed that are dangerous to women and young children, and I understand that you’re trying to be on a level playing field, but I’m here to represent my community. Cause I hear a lot of things about my community in these bills, and I’m telling you as a woman, first and foremost, that this is dangerous,’ Hyman pressed Senator Wiener on the issue of legally allowing transgender people in women’s locker rooms, as seen in the video.
Tish Hyman on X (formerly Twitter): “Had a chance to have a conversation with Senator Weiner. It was an honest one. I am hopeful that this is the first of many conversations we will have regarding women’s safety . Senator Weiner said he likes working with fresh young people and that he is open to ideas. Her insistence that trans women are not actual women ultimately led to her leaving the event as the crowd turned increasingly hostile towards her. However, upon posting the video to her social media, she received a lot of support and overwhelmingly positive comments.
This incident is very similar to one that took place at a Wi Spa location in Los Angeles, California, in June 2021.
Then, another biological man identifying as a woman was walking around on the women’s floor at the nude, gender-segregated Korean spa with his exposed and erect penis. This prompted four women who were present to file a criminal complaint with the LAPD. The man was later revealed to be a registered sex offender. Despite LGBTQ activists coming to his defence, he ended up being arrested, jailed, and charged with felony indecent exposure. However, at his trial in June 2025, he was found not guilty by the jury.
