One person was killed in a shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, in the morning of Wednesday, 24 September.
Dallas Police have confirmed to local media that the shooter is also dead, the perpetrator committed suicide at the scene with his gun. Two other people near the ICE facility have been wounded in the attack, but are still alive and being treated for their injuries at a local hospital. Dallas Police has yet to give any information about the victim, which has sparked speculation whether he was an officer serving in ICE, a person who happened to be near the facility, or a detainee.
Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin later told Fox News that ‘We know our ICE law enforcement was not injured’.
FBI Director Kash Patel has posted about the Dallas ICE shooting on his X page, informing the public that the shooter had the words ‘ANTI ICE’ written on his bullet casings, and attached a photo of the casings as well.
FBI Director Kash Patel on X (formerly Twitter): “This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities. While the investigation is… pic.twitter.com/SMOyxiKLqA / X”

Director Patel also wrote, ‘These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off,’ which suggests that the victim may in fact have been an ICE or local police officer protecting the field office. In his message, Director Patel is referencing the attack on ICE agents in ‘Prarieland, Texas [sic!],’ referring to the attack in Prairieland, Texas in July 2025.
This comes just two weeks after the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a college campus in Orem, Utah. The assassin in that case, a 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson, also had left-wing messages written on his bullet casings. In more similarities, both Robinson and the ICE shooter in Dallas were shooting from a rooftop, a long distance away from their target as well.
UPDATE: Gunman ID’d
The perpetrator has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. He had a marijuana-distribution felony conviction on his record from 2016. He was registered to vote as an independent in the state of Oklahoma.
