A new phase began this week in the Adaptive Hussars 2025 military exercise, as Hungarian Defence Forces launched nationwide troop movements on 15 September. Chief of the Defence Staff General Gábor Böröndi emphasized that these manoeuvres represent much more than simple redeployments.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, Böröndi explained that the aim is to demonstrate how Hungarian units are not tied to their home garrisons but are capable of fulfilling their duties even after the temporary relocation of personnel and equipment.
He stressed that defending the homeland requires readiness across the entire territory of Hungary. Soldiers must be prepared to operate hundreds of kilometres away from their bases, underscoring the essence of flexibility and nationwide coverage.
The general noted that the redeployment is not merely a logistical exercise but part of a strategic shift, testing the recently introduced garrison support concept. This approach ensures that defence operations can be carried out seamlessly anywhere in the country, with personnel and equipment properly supported. Units vacating their quarters can be replaced by others, increasing operational adaptability.
Böröndi underlined that the Hungarian Defence Forces are constantly adapting to 21st-century security challenges. The ongoing shift toward capability-based operations and modern operational command significantly boosts the military’s responsiveness.
He called the current developments a milestone: for the first time, Hungary is carrying out a nationwide movement based on inter-garrison cooperation, simultaneously testing both operational and administrative roles under the new legal framework.
