The killer of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk has been identified and is now in custody. The FBI has apprehended 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect.
Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on Wednesday, 10 September. The perpetrator Robinson fired just one round of a bolt-action rifle from a rooftop located about 300 yards away from his target—a very hard shot to make. He was able to flee the scene at the time, thus a national manhunt was called to track him down.
FBI agents found the murder weapon the next day, and later released images of the suspect as well, asking the public to help with the identification. President Trump was in studio for the morning programme Fox and Friends on Fox News on 12 September, where he announced that the suspect had been apprehended. He also shared that he was turned in by a very close relative of his after urging from a pastor. News reports later claimed it was his own father who gave him up to the police.
Piers Morgan on X (formerly Twitter): “Charlie Kirk’s assassin Tyler Robinson, 22, killed him because he hated his opinions and thought he was a fascist. Yet ironically, HE was the fascist, killing someone to silence their opposing views. The woke left love to say ‘speech is violent.’ It’s not – violence is. pic.twitter.com/70CWowT465 / X”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox has held a press conference upon the developments. He has shared that Robinson grew ‘increasingly political’ in recent years, according to statements from his family, and had a particular anger towards his target, Kirk. Political messages were also found engraved on the shell casings of his rifle, such as ‘Hey fascist! Catch!’.
The alleged perp grew up in Washington, Utah and was attending Utah State University in Logan, Utah before dropping out after just one semester. At a previous press conference on the day of the shooting, Governor Cox has already alluded to the fact that the state will be seeking the death penalty for the killer of Charlie Kirk.
