A 25-year-old German man, wanted for serious crimes including antisemitic-motivated offenses and illegal arms trafficking, was arrested in Budapest this week by Hungarian authorities. According to a statement from the National Bureau of Investigation (KR NNI), the man was apprehended at Nyugati Railway Station after disembarking from an InterCity train arriving from Szolnok.

German law enforcement agencies alerted their Hungarian counterparts after suspecting the fugitive had fled to Hungary. In cooperation with German authorities, Hungarian investigators tracked the man’s movements and identified his likely location.

KR NNI detectives determined that the suspect would travel on a train from Szolnok to Budapest on 12 May. Due to the severity of the charges and the possibility that the man was armed—potentially even with an automatic weapon—the Hungarian Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK) was called in to make the arrest.

The man, considered armed and dangerous, was intercepted on the platform of Nyugati Station during the afternoon hours. He was handcuffed and taken into custody under heightened security measures and then transported to the 6th district Police Station.

The suspect is currently being held in custody, and the Hungarian authorities will later decide on his extradition to Germany.
