In a ceremony also attended by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Audi Hungaria Ltd officially launched production of the third-generation Audi Q3 compact SUV at its Győr plant on Thursday. The event marked a new chapter for the factory, which has been assembling premium Audi models for 25 years.

Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Audi Hungaria, highlighted the plant’s evolution from producing the iconic Audi TT to the A3, and since 2018, the second-generation Q3. The Q3 proved to be a global success, with more than two million units sold across 100 countries. The one-millionth vehicle of the outgoing model recently rolled off the production line.

Breme expressed confidence that the newest version will be equally in demand, and emphasized Audi Hungaria’s goal to maximize production capacity. The Győr facility currently operates at full annual capacity of 185,000 vehicles, producing both the Audi Q3 and the Cupra Terramar.

To meet anticipated global demand, excess Q3 production will be handled by Audi’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany. However, all body components will continue to be manufactured in Győr, with painting and assembly for the Ingolstadt units carried out locally in Germany.

Audi Hungaria remains a key player within the Audi and Volkswagen Group, serving as the group’s central engine supplier and the world’s largest engine manufacturing site. The company also plays a vital role in the Hungarian economy, contributing approximately 7 per cent to the country’s total exports.

In 2024 Audi Hungaria reported revenues of 8.611 billion euros, with after-tax profits of 304 million euros. Last year, the plant produced 179,710 vehicles and nearly 1.6 million powertrains.
