Schaeffler Savaria Ltd, a manufacturer of automotive components, has expanded its site in Szombathely with a logistics hall covering an area of 6,200 square metres and an office building of 2,200 square metres, investing more than 5 billion forints.

The new facility includes meeting rooms, changing rooms, and a conference centre suitable for hosting international events; recently, the Schaeffler European Works Council held its meeting here with 60 participants from 15 countries, as stated in their press release. They added that the logistics centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, featuring an easily accessible warehouse system with products that can be swiftly moved.

Speaking about the investment, CEO of Schaeffler Savaria Ltd Tibor Szigeti mentioned that they already operate two plants and two research and development centres, and have now inaugurated a strategically important logistics centre and office building.

Since its establishment in 1997, the first plant of Schaeffler’s Szombathely site has been continuously evolving. In 2019, they expanded it with a 3,000-square-metre hall, including the construction of a bearing production unit, workshops, and a metrology room, as stated in the company’s press release. Following a greenfield investment worth more than 23.5 billion forints completed by September 2021, with 5 billion forint support from the Hungarian government, Schaeffler built a new 15,000-square-metre manufacturing hall in Szombathely, where components related to electromobility are produced.

This development led to the creation of 200 new jobs.

Schaeffler operates two factories in Hungary, in Szombathely and Debrecen, with its sales centre located in Budapest. Additionally, they have a research and development centre in Vas County’s county seat.

Employing nearly five thousand workers in Hungary, with over three thousand in Szombathely alone, Schaeffler stands as the largest employer in the region.
