Coming off the box office disaster that was Disney's new Snow White, Rachel Zegler could hardly get any new film roles in the United States. She did get cast in a London production of the musical Evita—however, at one of the shows last week, she had to abruptly leave during intermission for mysterious reasons.

It seems that Rachel Zegler just cannot catch a break these days. The 24-year-old American actress has just come off the disastrous press tour of the catastrophic flop that was the new Snow White film by Disney, starring her in the titular role—despite being a Latina…

We have covered that slow show business train wreck extensively on this site, so it is only prudent that we give a count of the final ‘damage’ now that the film’s theatrical run has unceremoniously ended. Snow White 2025 has only brought in $205.7 million in total revenue worldwide, against a $270 million production budget. Given that theatres take about half of the ticket revenue, and marketing costs are not included in the production budget, it is safe to assume that Walt Disney Studios has lost north of $200 million on the project.

Snow White Flops Massively at the Box Office, to the Surprise of No One

This, coupled with the spat between studio execs and Zegler’s social media use leading up to the movie release, resulted in studios not scrambling to sign Zegler, to put it mildly.

However, soon, what seemed like a golden opportunity to get away came for the young actress. In the midst of the fallout from Snow White, it was announced that Zegler had been cast to play in another titular role, this time in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Evita about former First Lady of Argenitina Eva Perón. This is a stage production at The London Palladium in the famous West End theatre district in London, United Kingdom.

In this role, she could escape the United States, where most of the attention on her most recent movie’s abysmal performance is focused, and instead showcase one talent she undeniably possesses—singing. During the backlash over Snow White, disgruntled online users routinely mocked her personality, acting, and even appearance. However, even her harshest critics conceded that she has a unique, well-trained singing voice.

Given all that, the across-the-ocean version of Broadway certainly has appeared to be the perfect career move for her.

Evita starring Rachel Zegler premiered on 14 June. On 25 July, however, news broke that the lead actress had left one of the shows during intermission. According to the reporting by People magazine, her departure was announced to the audience during intermission. Her understudy Bella Brown took over the role, and according to media reports, the audience was very pleased with her performance.

The next day, 26 July, however, she was back on stage. By then, it was also revealed in media reports that she had to leave the show abruptly the day before due to an unspecified ‘health scare’. Also on 26 July, Zegler took to her Instagram to share this message:

‘[I] cannot describe the love in this building every night but today in particular. I am in awe of this company. The way they come together and never leave anyone behind. We really, truly hold each other’s hands throughout each number and each act and each show to make sure that we work as a crew. And the result speaks for itself’.
